Very nice and beautiful detail Mailman that's a great find there. Was it on the surface or in some hard pack material?

It was only a few inches down in some fairly loose gravel.

That is a nice piece you have there, Kevin. I think that is a trilobite fossil.

Thanks for the concern, folks. Life, school and this spring's weather have not allowed me to take time off and drop around...

:(

have found a few nice fossils laying around though...Picking black raspberries for a new batch of wine...

Great to hear from you BMAN I was wondering if everything has been alright. I figured with school and crops you have been tied up but when I seen mailmans fossil I thought you would like that. I am glad Kevin posted pics. To me not knowing allot about fossils it looked like a toy to me :D

I love seeing other's fossil finds. Beautifully detailed enrolled trilo there Kevin..lucky you. I found 4 recently. The first one is free of any matrix (rock) but it's badly weathered, there's no eyes/features to be found like yours but the body is pretty intact. The others are still encased in rock yet so I'm hoping that after I prep them, they will be as complete and maybe detailed as yours. Another pic is of my finds this season so far waiting to be prepped.

Those look neat also Suzie, I never find fossils but normally dont look for them. Well I heard the Double D claim has some good fossils on it so I am going to have to look through the tailings after the dredge. Some of them are really neat and I have no idea how you people spot them. Thanks for posting additional pics

Tips on finding fossils.

Look for odd patterns in the rocks as you go moving material. If it looks like a tree branch or other recognizable pattern in the rock, it may have been alive and thus is a possible fossil rock.
Keep any odd looking ones. Of those keep the best ones and take the rest to a rock and gem show...the dealers have to get them from somewhere...
Some are worth the time to pick up.

At the Norris claim, I was finding nice keeper specimens about every other bucketfull of material. Most of you have seen the hand sized coral tubes I found there that are fused together...That is a good example of what to look for. An odd looking rock...

Sounds good Bill, be glad to show some examples to you and we can play in the dirt...Lol!!!!

Yep, Mark. About 3-4 years after I make it...needs to age properly, Bartels and James had it right...Think I may just make a batch of B. Raspberry mead (Honey wine) this time around...

your trilobites and rock pictures are neat Susie. A real good find that shows promise!

I am going to have to break down and get a digital camera and take some shots of some good examples from my collection to put up here...

I found a nice fossil shellfish and matrix mixed rock the other day on the farm...it has some of both the positive and negative fossils prints in the same fracture flake I took off the main rock. There are a lot of them in the hand sized piece.
